Recently a UK-based domain registration service provider called “Domain Registry of America” has sent out subscription offers for already reserved .com-domains.

If you received one of these letters you can safely ignore them. It says: “You must renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights[…]”. This is an assumption. Domain subscriptions are renewed annually per default with most registration service providers.

Needless to say that the price of 26€ for an annual subscription is too expensive. Everything above 20€ (incl. VAT) is definitely far too expensive for .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info top level domains.

Finally the release candidate of the long-awaited version 2.5 of the best file manager for Windows has arrived. Version 2.0 was released back in February 2001. Since March 2003 beta versions of Servant Salamander 2.5 have been released periodically. The last one was version 2.5 beta 11.

I have used Servant Salamander since 1999 because of the following killer features:

Built-In FTP-, SCP- and Registry-browsing

Graphics viewer (conversions, screenshots, rotation)

Office viewer (Excel, Word, PDF quick(!) view)

Recursively change attributes, case, date information

Powerful file renaming, undelete, packing, enrypting utilities

Powerful file and recursive directory comparison

Completely keyboard controlled

Only a small shareware fee that pays off definitely

Statement from the ALTAP website:

We are releasing Servant Salamander Release Candidate 1 with prolonged expiration limit, so we will not bother you with another installation procedure until the final version will arrive.

Servant Salamander 2.5 RC1 looks pretty stable now. Further development is freezed, only major problems will be fixed.

We are working on language translation support, help system, and documentation. You may notice that each plugin has own .SLG file with language dependent resources. Help system is working, each plugin has own help which is merged with main Servant Salamander help (not included in RC1). Now we have to write documentation for each plugin.

As soon as these tasks will be finished, we will release the RC2 version with language packs. We hope you will help us polish all language translations.

For Servant Salamander version 3.0 there will be feature-poll opened on our web site. Please keep posting your ideas to Official Support Forum available at http://forum.altap.cz/.

Slice the pumpkin and the potatoes into small cubes and put them into a pot containing hot water. Add salt, soup cubes, grained caraway, ginger and one nutmeg. Cook and mash the whole thing well but get rid of the nutmeg before you damage your equipment. Finally add a shot of milk and/or sour cream and stir. Before you serve the soup, you may add a shot of pumpkin seed oil as shown in the picture. Gives some nice effect.
